Fantastical February for the Katverse

It’s time for an update on my writing and the Katverse! My last update confessed to losing my way just a bit with a side project that I have since realised is not a good idea. This month, I started getting back on track. I re-read Werewolves & Wizardry, came up with some awesome ideas for The Titan Awakes (final book in the Kat Drummond Series), and started getting my Kat Drummond marketing back on track.

I have been hampered by rolling blackouts, however. I bought a portable power bank, solar panel, and inverter to power my workstation, but they all broke immediately. So, I spent a lot of this month trying to get a refund. Out of bitterness and a palpable sense of betrayal, I decided not to get a replacement. That is, until I got hit for over four hours without electricity yesterday. At night. And my partner’s laptop can only last for 2 hours at a stretch.

Yeah. Not fun. So, I’m going to be trying to get another power bank. And prepare for disappointment again. Well, just the cost of living in sunny South Africa! I also need to brave the laptop repair shop, or just buy a new one. Ah, yes. Fun!

Well, enough of that. Let’s get onto the updates!

Cover Change

Some eagle-eyed fans may have noticed that I changed the cover for Part-Time Monster Hunter. This is as a part of an experiment to get my marketing back on track.

When I first released Part-Time Monster Hunter back in 2019, I realised a tad too late that a lot of urban fantasy readers don’t really like zombies that much. And while readers will know that Katverse zombies are not the usual Walking Dead types, and that the Katverse isn’t really a traditional post-apocalyptic tale, people who are thinking about reading the series don’t know this.

So, I decided to remove the zombies from the cover and see if that convinces more people to take a stab at the series.

Let me know in the comments what you think!

New Audiobooks!

The new edition of Part-Time Monster Hunter, narrated by Charis Hart, is out now on most audiobook retailers! It still needs to land on Audible (as of writing this), but I advise rather buying the book from Authors Direct. This will allow you to get the full audiobook for only $4.99! A real steal.

You can get the new edition of Part-Time Monster’s audiobook on Authors Direct here!

Otherwise, you can find the book on your favourite retailer here.

I’ve also already uploaded Blood Cartel, book 2, and am just waiting for my distributor to wrap up their end of production. Make sure to follow me on social media and my newsletter so you can hear when it gets released!

I’m working closely with Charis Hart to produce the entire series in audio. So, please start the series knowing that you will be able to complete it in audio. With many more books releasing this year!

Old Audiobook on YouTube

I produced a new edition of Part-Time Monster Hunter’s audiobook because I wanted a consistent narrator for the entire series, but simply couldn’t afford to pay my old narrator her desired rate.

But I didn’t want this edition to go to waste. So, instead of leaving it out in the void to be nibbled on by wraiths, I uploaded the entire audiobook for FREE on YouTube.

Please give it a listen, a like, a comment and subscribe if you haven’t already!

A word of warning: I don’t plan on uploading any of the other audiobooks to YouTube. This is a gift to you. But to pay my expenses, I do need to sell some books. Weird, I know!

Anthology Short Story

I’ve been a bit naughty this month. Instead of re-reading Shadow Realm so I can outline and write The Titan Awakes, I instead wrote a short story for a multi-author anthology. But the short story is set in the Katverse!

It stars a courier of magical items named Ryder Miles. He’s a real gunslinger type, with a peculiar immunity to magic.

I loved writing this short story and I hope to continue Ryder’s story in a future series of full-length novels.

I will keep you posted on the anthology’s release!

Plans for the Future

I will be focusing on re-reading Shadow Realm, outlining The Titan Awakes, and then writing the book. After completing the Kat Drummond Series, I will be moving onto the Cindy Giles Series.

By the end of this year, I aim to have completed two series. Look forward to it! And make sure to subscribe to my newsletter so you don’t miss an update.

Until next time…

The Hunt Continues!
